The History behind the Thanksgiving Recipe

All the family members will get together around the dinner table and enjoy the delicious thanksgiving foods such as main dish, side dish, desserts, appetizers, and drinks.

The main dish of the Thanksgiving dinner Recipe is turkey. We all know that Turkey is a must for our table. There are so many ways to make a turkey. The best place to check the top two ways of making a turkey is at Thanksgiving Recipes. There is no accurate history of why we eat Turkey during Thanksgiving. There are many stories written and but none of them are accurate. Thanksgiving Recipes come from generation to generation. In our modern times, we became very creative about what kind of Thanksgiving Recipes we can create for our delicious dinner.

Some believe that putting Turkey on our table has nothing to do with Thanksgiving. And some believe that in the year 1621, there was a harvest festival that was celebrated by the colonists or called the Pilgrims. The purpose was to thank God for saving their lives and helping them through their voyage in Mayflower and the following years of drought at Plymouth. They decided to celebrate and be thankful that day with their neighbors called the Massasoit, the chief of the Native Indians or Wampangoags and his family. All the family members arrived and it was close to ninety people and decided to stay for three days.

Only four grown-up married ladies were left to do all the cooking. Many of the soldiers were sent to hunt for fowls in order to feed the whole village for a week. The Thanksgiving Recipe menu consisted of cornmeal, fish, or turkeys. Other dishes were not included in the menu but were available to the village population. The foods were lobster, rabbit, chicken, squashes, beans, chestnuts, hickory nuts, onions, leeks, dried fruits, maple syrup and honey, radishes, cabbage, carrots, eggs, and maybe goat cheese.

One of the great methods available to prepare meats and poultry was roasting and it took long hours to cook. Colonists were able to have cranberries but since no sugar was available, honey or syrup was used to sweeten the cranberries.

Based on this popular belief about the Thanksgiving Recipe menu we should only use the roasted method of cooking and have fish, corn, wheat bread, and no turkey.

Like mentioned before, there is no accurate history of why we eat Turkey at Thanksgiving dinner.
